Twisters Swirl Through Tornado Alley in South Central States

May 2, 2019

Severe thunderstorms spawned numerous tornadoes across northern Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, downing trees and utility lines and damaging roofs. No injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service issued numerous tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings across the region Tuesday afternoon.

In Texas, a tornado caused widespread tree damage and some roof damage in the tiny Red River community of Charlie, about 17 miles northeast of Wichita Falls, before moving into Oklahoma and dissipating. Clay County sheriff’s dispatcher Kerri Heaton said all electric service was cut to the community of about 70 residents.

Barbara Hager, a spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, says a tornado near the northern Arkansas town of Bergman tossed the roof from one house and damaged others, as well as trees and power lines.
