Ray Elected Chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas

Mark Ray of Borden Insurance Agency in Corpus Christi has been elected to serve as chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) for 2019-20.

Additionally, Gaylon Brown of TexCap Insurance in Dallas as was elected to serve as vice chair and Robert Nitsche of The Nitsche Group in Giddings was tapped as chair-elect.

Ray is vice president of Borden Insurance Agency in Corpus Christi. His insurance experience spans more than 30 years. Ray started his career as a commercial insurance agent with Swantner and Gordon Insurance Agency before joining Borden Insurance more than 14 years ago.

He specializes in oil and gas, lawyers’ professional liability and other commercial property and casualty coverage.

Ray has served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of the Coastal Bend, chairman of the IIAT Windstorm Task Force, and as regional vice president for IMPACT, IIAT’s statewide political action committee.

Brown is CEO and managing partner of TexCap Insurance in Dallas. He began his insurance career with Millerman & Millerman Insurance Agency (M&M). Brown became a partner at M&M in 1975, which was later sold to Brook Crawford & Associates in 1992, and subsequently to Hilb, Rogal & Hamilton (HRH) in 1994. Brown served as executive vice president of HRH until his resignation in October 2005, at which time he helped found TexCap Insurance.

Brown has served on many state and local associations and committees, including having served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas.

Nitsche is president/CEO of The Nitsche Group with multiple locations throughout Texas. He grew up in the insurance agency, spending time in multiple departments at The Nitsche Group. In 1995, he assumed the role of CFO, until 2010, when his father RJ, appointed him CEO.

During his CEO tenure, The Nitsche Group has received many accolades, including: Medium Family Business of the Year by Baylor University, UFG National Agency of the Year, Davey Award for Insurance Website, Top 100 P&C Agency Award, and Best & Brightest Companies to Work For in the Nation.

The new IIAT officers were elected at the agent association’s annual business meeting, Insurcon, recently held in Grapevine. The group also elected five new directors to its board: Tommy Dies with Bryan Insurance Agency in Graham; Bert Miller with The Miller Agency in Navasota; Tyler Spears with BKCW in Killeen and Austin; Kyle Stripling with Galloway Insurance Agency in Burnet; and Matt Womack with Watkins Insurance Group in Austin.
