ICT’s ‘Speed Interviews’ Connect Texas College Students with Insurance Pros

July 17, 2019

On July 11, the Insurance Council of Texas’ (ICT’s) 4th Annual Speed Interview and Network Session connected students from universities across Texas with 23 insurance companies and agencies.

“The speed interview session is a great opportunity for students and companies,” ICT’s Mark Hanna said in a media release. “A third of the students participating in last year’s Speed Interview found jobs in the P&C industry, and we’re expecting even greater success this year.”

The interviews were held as part of ICT’s annual insurance symposium. In addition to interviewing with industry executives, the 17 participating students learned about resume tips and interview techniques. This year’s students are recent graduates from the University of Houston Downtown, University of Houston Main, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, University of Texas at San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, University of North Texas and Baylor University.

The participating companies and agencies include State Farm, Progressive, Chubb, AmTrust, CNA, CorVel, Farmers, GEICO, Germania, Higginbotham, Hochheim Prairie, Lighthouse, QuestPro, State Auto, the Texas Department of Insurance, Texas Mutual, Travelers, Union Standard, Watkins, Patterson and Associates Insurance Agencies Inc, Nationwide, A-Max and UPC.

Since 2002, the ICT’s Education Foundation has invested over $1 million dollars in scholarships to Texas university students interested in careers in insurance and risk management.

“Several of the companies in our Speed Interview said this year’s participating ICT scholarship recipients were the best group of job-seeking students they had interviewed,” Hanna said in an email to Insurance Journal.
