USGS Reports 3.7 Mag Earthquake Struck Northeast Arkansas

An earthquake rated with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 struck near Marked Tree in northeastern Arkansas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday near Marked Tree, about 120 miles (193 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock, according to the U.S.G.S. report.

No injuries or damage are reported and geologists say damage is not likely in earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.

Marked Tree is located at the southern end of the New Madrid Seismic Zone where a series of earthquakes in 1811-1812 included three estimated at magnitudes of 7.3-7.5.
