The Texas Department of Insurance Issued a Notice about New Online Agent Exams

July 2, 2021

The Texas Department of Insurance issued a notice this week of the availability of a new option to take a certification exam at your home or at an office online for most major insurance agent lines.

An off-site monitor will use a computer’s webcam and microphone to monitor the exam taker, according to the department.

Tests that can be taken online include:

  • General lines life and health
  • General lines property and casualty
  • Personal lines property and casualty
  • Life agent

Sign up by going to the PearsonVUE testing page, creating an account and scheduling an exam.

If an in-person exam has already been scheduled, it can be canceled and new one scheduled by selecting “take my exam from home or work.” Exams must be canceled at least 48 hours before the test is scheduled to start.

Online exams require a reliable computer, webcam and internet connection. A government ID, and space free from noise and distractions are also required.

The exams have test takers take photos of themselves, their ID, and work area, and then the exam administrator runs a security check and starts the test.

A live host is available to help with issues. Those who don’t pass the online exam must re-take it in person.
