February 25, 2022 is the deadline for most Louisiana policyholders to file proof of loss for Hurricane Ida damage.
Friday marks the 180th day after Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane. Most residential and commercial property insurance policies require policyholders to file proof of loss within a 180-day deadline.
“Louisiana law states that when a catastrophic event occurs and civil officials declare a state of disaster or emergency pursuant to law, property owners within the declaration area shall have not have less than 180 days from the date of the event to submit proof of loss to their insurer,” the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) said.
According to the LDI, sufficient proof of loss could include the initial damage claim, as well as photos, contractor estimates, receipts for temporary repairs and any other documentation required by the company.
Ida losses are expect to reach as much as $30 billion according to estimations by some analysts.
Louisiana residents with questions about the claims filing process or concerns about how their specific claim is being handled by their insurer can contact the LDI at 1-800-259-5300.
