3 Dead, Dozens Injured in Texas Panhandle Tornado

At least three people died and dozens more injured when a tornado struck the Texas Panhandle town of Perryton on June 15.

The National Weather Services in Amarillo said the tornado hit at 5:10 p.m. CT. Perryton, a town of 8,500 people, is 115 miles southwest of Amarillo.

Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher and Ochiltree County Sheriff Terry Bouchard told KAMR that 56 people are reported as injured and two people are missing. Officials with Ochiltree General Hospital told the news outlet that 75 people have come the hospital as a result of injuries from the tornado.

Bouchard told KAMR the tornado destroyed 25-30 mobile homes and two blocks of business.

Perryton is without power, Xcel Energy officials told ABC News.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy state emergency response resources.

“I encourage all Texans to heed the guidance of state and local officials and to take all necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones,” Abbott said.
