March 14, 2003

The Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business announced the appointment of Kevin T. Cronin, J.D., as a Professor of Legal Studies.

Recognized for his strong knowledge on international insurance, particularly public policy issues, Cronin will be responsible for teaching graduate courses on international risk and insurance and on insurance law. He will also be heavily involved in the department’s new graduate track in insurance regulation, as well as conduct important research on the U.S. federal government’s involvement in various insurance issues through the department’s Center for Risk Management and Insurance Research.

“We could not be more pleased to have someone of Kevin’s incredible background and dedication join us,” said Harold D. Skipper Jr., RMI Department chairman. “He will strengthen our public policy educational and research activities, while bringing great depth of understanding to our graduate course offerings.”

Prior to joining the RMI faculty, Cronin was president and CEO of the International Insurance Council (IIC). During his three years at IIC, he advised the U.S. government on a number of trade issues, notably China’s WTO accession. He was also president of the northern region of FIDES, the Federation of Latin American Insurance Trade Associations.

Before his work with the IIC, Cronin opened the Washington, D.C. offices of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), serving as the association’s Washington Counsel and director of government and international relations. For his participation in creating a federal and international presence for U.S. state regulators, Cronin received the NAIC’s highest award in 1996. He also participated in the formation of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), where he served as secretariat/advisor from its inception in 1994 to 1998.
