The consumer services staff of the West Virginia Insurance Commission will remain open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 27 to answer telephone callers’ insurance questions.

Insurance Commissioner Jane L. Cline extended the department’s hours to give consumers more time to participate in “Get Smart About Insurance Week.”

“The West Virginia Insurance Commission is a terrific source of unbiased information,” Cline explained. “A consumer may not have the coverage they need or may have more than necessary.

“Someone may feel they have been treated unfairly when shopping for insurance, or may just want help understanding how different kinds of insurance work. No matter what the situation, we are here to help consumers get smart about insurance.

“When it comes to insurance, knowledge is your best policy,” Cline said. “That’s why we are encouraging consumers to get smart about their insurance coverage and we believe the West Virginia Insurance Commission is the best resource for insurance-related questions and concerns.

West Virginia residents were urged when “Get Smart About Insurance Week” began on Monday to contact the commission at 1-888-TRY-WVIC to request a free brochure and obtain information on what they should expect from insurance coverage, ask questions and get tips to confirm if a policy is legitimate.
