February 9, 2005

Hundreds of employees from The Main Street America Group donated more than 7,700 non-perishable food items, totaling nearly two tons, to several food pantries in five cities in conjunction with the Jacksonville-based company’s celebration of Super Bowl XXXIX.

All food items will be donated to local food pantries in markets where the company has operations: Jacksonville, Fla.; Keene, N.H.; Richmond, Va.: Syracuse, N.Y.; and Auburn, Mass.

The food pantries receiving donations include: Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Florida, Jacksonville; Community Kitchen, Keene, N.H.; Shelter for Battered Women and Children, Richmond, Va.; The Flagler Home, Richmond; The Food Bank of Central New York, Syracuse; and the Worcester (Mass.) County Food Bank.

“Our employees demonstrated tremendous generosity toward our local food pantries by supporting this special program,” Tom Van Berkel, Main Street America Group president and CEO said. “I am grateful to all those who participated and hope our food donation can help those in need.”

The Fill-A-Bowl, Win-A-Bowl raffle gave all Main Street America Group full-time, regular part-time or limited-hour part-time employees an opportunity to win an all-expense paid trip to Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville. The grand prize winner, Sue Macphee, senior administrative assistant, Auburn, was announced last week during a company-wide video conference. Employees received one raffle ticket for every two food items they donated. There was no limit to the number of food items an employee could donate.
