Tom Crawford, president and CEO of Atlanta-based Crawford & Company, announced that Allen W. Nelson has joined the company as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
Nelson will be responsible for handling legal matters for Crawford, overseeing the company’s Legal Department, and performing the duties of corporate secretary.
Nelson comes to Crawford from BellSouth Corporation, where he most recently served as chief compliance counsel. He also previously practiced law with Hawkins & Parnell as well as Troutman, Sanders, Lockerman & Ashmore; both firms are located in Atlanta. Nelson is a co-inventor of the “Integrated Governance Process,” for which a patent is pending.
“Allen is a great addition to Crawford’s management team,” said Crawford. “His insight and experience, particularly in the areas of compliance and Sarbanes-Oxley, will be a tremendous asset to the Company. I look forward to working with him.”
Nelson earned his Juris Doctorate from the Duke University School of Law where he was recognized as a J.R. Parkinson Memorial Scholar. He also received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Duke’s Trinity College of Arts and Sciences.
