FAIA Forms Young Agents Council to Perpetuate Leadership, Advocacy

November 9, 2005

A new Young Agents Council has been formed by the Florida Association of Insurance Agents in Tallahassee, Fla. The purpose of the YAC is to perpetuate the future of the independent insurance agency system by serving as the unified voice of young agents in Florida.

The Young Agents of Florida include FAIA member agencies and associate personnel who have been in the business less than 10 years or are under 40 years of age. The council is recruiting members during state association meetings, conventions, continuing education classes, newly licensed agents, company representative referrals and agency visits.

“There is an inherent need within the association to grow and encourage the next generation of professionals,” Brendan Lynch, the inaugural YAC chairman explained. “By combining our strengths, talents, and vision we will ensure a healthy and progressive association in the future.”

FAIA pointed out that the “missions” of the YAC are: To exemplify professionalism and ethical behavior; to be involved in the legislative process surrounding the industry; to promote community relations; and to foster an environment in which young insurance professionals can interact with each other, resulting in successful career paths for young agents and growth for their agencies.

“The formation of this council has been carefully planned and we are excited about its potential to create even greater advocacy for independent agents,” Jeff Grady, FAIA president said.

To support this endeavor, FAIA has acquired the talents of one of the Young Agents Council’s founding members. Melissa Champany, an agent by training, will serve as the Young Agents Coordinator and aid in building this new component of FAIA.

Founded in 1904, The Florida Association of Insurance Agents is a large association representing 1,300 member agencies with more than 10,000 licensed professionals.
