PIA of Fla. Board Presents Achievement Awards to Three Members

December 19, 2005

Ed Langston, Donald McMahon and Phil Zelman have been honored with awards for their achievements by the Professional Insurance Agents of Florida board of directors.

Mark O’Connell, PIA of Florida CEO, presented Langston with the ‘President’s Award,’ to honor and recognize him for serving on the PIA board and numerous volunteer committees.

Langston founded the Langston Insurance Agency, with offices in Casselberry and Kissimmee, Fla. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, most notably in nonstandard auto, preferred auto, commercial accounts, annuities and homeowner coverages. He has been a member of PIA since 1995 and a board member since 1996. He served as PIA president from 1999 to 2001, is now active on PIA’s legislative committee and chairs its budget committee.

McMahon, owner of McMahon-Hadder Insurance Inc., with offices in Pensacola and Destin/Fort Walton, was named “Agent of the Year,” the highest honor an agent can receive. The award is based on an agent’s professional competence, high ethical standards, and overall contribution to the industry. McMahon also becomes Florida’s nominee for PIA’s National Agent of the Year Award.

O’Connell said McMahon has worked to make PIA a stronger organization and is an outstanding spokesperson and advocate, not only for PIA but for the industry.

McMahon volunteers his time to promote and further PIA and independent agents around the state. He’s been a member of PIA since 1994 and served as its president 2003-04. He now chairs Legislative committee, sits on the executive committee and has been active in membership activities.

Zelman, vice president and co-owner of NCF Insurance Associates in Coral Gables, was awarded PIA’s “Leadership Award.” The award recognizes a committee chair for contributions to the insurance community in Florida and the nation.

Zelman, the chair of PIA’s budget committee, was recognized for his work in furthering the successes of PIA with strong financial oversight, enabling PIA to increase its programs, enhance its benefits to members, standardize the dues structure, and increase its presence in the insurance community. He has been a board member of PIA of Florida for three years.
