Beecher Carlson Initiates Developer, Builder Program

March 10, 2006

An integrated brokerage and captive solution for residential developers and builders has been launched by Beecher Carlson, an Atlanta-based brokerage and risk management consulting company. The firm’s Precision program combines risk management consultants with custom-designed alternative risk financing solutions to provide greater control of the insurance process and significantly reduces costs for builders and developers.

“With record-level insurance premiums being experienced in many states, fewer and fewer carriers offering builders adequate coverage and subcontractors facing unprecedented challenges to attain coverage, the construction industry is long overdue for a proven solution to overcome these obstacles,” John Jassmann, national sales leader and head of Beecher Carlson’s construction practice said. “Precision allows residential developers and builders the opportunity to experience the value of an integrated approach that combines world-class insurance brokerage talent with industry-leading captive expertise.”

In 2004, Beecher Carlson acquired RiskCap and integrated brokerage and captive management consulting by combining its 25-year national account brokerage legacy with the captive depth and expertise. RiskCap now operates under the Beecher Carlson brand in Denver emphasizing a phased approach to captive management.

The proven three-phase approach is collaborative and educational with key information being shared by both parties to determine the best course of action, which at times, is no action at all. The process allows builders and developers to review and consider all the alternatives to traditional insurance products, removing any confusion about captives and ensuring the delivery of the right solution.

An essential component to Precision is “Exact,” the continuous improvement of the captive structure over the life of its existence mixed with intense internal audits and reviews. The result of Exact is accurate and timely information management and reporting for builders and developers.

“We don’t view the captive management process as merely an accounting function,” Jassmann said. “Our design consultants stay involved during and after implementation assuring the highest degree of effectiveness for the life of the entity.”

“The financial structures we have created for clients over the last 25 years have evolved into a integrated and consultative approach,” explained Mark Ouimette, managing director and homebuilder specialist for Beecher Carlson. “That gives the highest quality builders peace of mind and lets them get back to what they do best, creating fine homebuilding experiences for their customer base.”
