Members of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina traveled to Washington, DC last week for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America’s April 26 to 28 National Legislative Conference.
The IIABA National Legislative Conference is the insurance industry’s largest and most-effective legislative gathering. Annually, more than 1,000 independent agents and brokers make the trek to the nation’s capital for this important event and personally lobby their members of Congress on insurance and small business issues important to their livelihood.
Highlights this year included a presentation by Colin Powell; an in-depth legislative issues briefing session; several social/networking opportunities, such as the annual IIABA Congressional Reception on Capitol Hill; appearances by several high-profile political speakers; and meetings on Capitol Hill with Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) and other NC Congressional Leaders.
North Carolina young agents in attendance included: Harry Bray, Providence; Scott Burns, Charlotte; Jason Byers, Charlotte; Leamon Clemmons, Supply; Bill Connolly, Kinston; Rusty Crissman, Yadkinville; Dan Gilbert, Fletcher; Margaret Hunt, Nags Head; Janice Jones, Wilson; Chris Meinberg, Winston-Salem; Kenneth Richardson, Greensboro; Brian Smith, Greenville; John Snipes, Dunn; and Beth Wilkerson, Chapel Hill. In addition, more than 30 other agents attended.
