Susan Mack has joined the Main Street America Group as senior vice president, general counsel. She will head the firm’s legal department and be responsible for determining the organization’s legal posture, will be a member of its senior management team and based at its corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla., reporting to Tom Van Berkel, president and chief executive officer.
“Mack will be responsible for ensuring that our company’s business practices, policies and all other dealings meet state and federal regulatory requirements,” Van Berkel said. “She will also oversee all aspects of governance for our organization to ensure we are managed in the best interests of our policyholders.”
Mack joins Main Street America from Transamerica Reinsurance, Charlotte, N.C., where she was senior vice president and general counsel. At Transamerica, Mack managed all legal affairs for the third largest U.S. life, accident and health, and annuity reinsurer. During her seven-year tenure at Transamerica, Mack also served on the CEO’s executive committee and as secretary to its reinsurance management board.
Prior to joining Transamerica in 1998, Mack was vice president, claims, general counsel and corporate secretary at St. Paul, Re Inc., New York, N.Y. Her industry experience also includes several senior legal roles at Aetna Life and Casualty, Hartford, Conn. Mack began her legal career as an attorney in the law firm of Gassett, Perry and Frank, San Jose, Calif.
