Feds Give West Virginia $543,898 for Mine Safety Training

March 12, 2008

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration has given West Virginia about $544,000 for mine safety training.

The grant is part of more than $8 million the agency is providing nationally for training in 49 states and the Navajo Nation.

MSHA says the money is to be used to provide federally mandated training and retraining for both underground and surface miners.

The money is for coal and non-coal miners and for people engaged in dredging, or who work at stone, sand or gravel operations.
