Csiszar, Ex-Regulator, Named to Board of Florida’s Patriot National

Ernest N. Csiszar, former South Carolina insurance commissioner and head of a national insurers organization, has been named to the board of directors of Patriot National Insurance Group and Guarantee Insurance Co.

Csiszar was South Carolina’s insurance commissioner from 1999 to 2004 and president and CEO of Property and Casualty Insurers of America from 2004 to 2006. He also served for five years as president and CEO of Seibels Bruce Group, Inc., a South Carolina-based property/casualty insurance company, and was president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2004.

Csiszar is currently serving as a special assistant to the dean for the Risk and Uncertainty Management Initiative and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business.

Csiszar, a native of Romania, earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where he also earned his law degree. He practiced commercial and corporate law in Canada in the 1970s and ’80s. From 1979 to 1988 he was a partner and managing co-director of Holborn Holding Corp., based in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was responsible for merchant banking and project finance activities in the Middle East, the Far East, and North America.

Patriot National Insurance Group in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. is an insurance holding company focused on workers’ compensation insurance. Patriot has two operating subsidiaries – Guarantee Insurance Co. and Patriot Underwriters, Inc. Guarantee Insurance Company’s workers’ compensation product line includes large deductible, segregated cell captives, agency-owned captives, and investor-owned captives. Patriot Underwriters is a Managing General Underwriter that produces, underwrites and services alternative market and traditional workers’ compensation insurance plans for leading insurance companies.
