Search Is On for Arsonist Responsible for Series of Fires in Georgia

October 28, 2016

Authorities believe an arsonist was responsible for a series of fires in Floyd County that damaged two homes and forced dozens of others to be evacuated.

News outlets report that at least four brush fires stretched along U.S. Route 27 on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Firefighters battled late into the night to control flare-ups after the flames damaged two homes and destroyed a man’s garage that housed his antique car collection.

No one was seriously injured, but at least one firefighter was hospitalized as a result of the heat.

The Rome News-Tribune reports police issued a lookout for a suspect involved in starting the blazes – a white man in his 40s with long hair and a beard driving a small white or faded red pickup truck.
