In this role, Burt DeVriese becomes the only female president of a homeowner’s insurance company in the State of Florida and one of a handful in the nation, Security First said.

“This is a very proud moment for us all to work for a company with strong family values and one that continues to progressively lead the industry into the future,” the company said in a statement.

Burt DeVriese first joined Security First Insurance in 2009. As president, she will continue to create a solid business strategy, maintain transparency of company objectives and goals, and evolve the organization to build a collaborative, supportive culture.

As CEO, Locke Burt will continue work on insurance law reform. He previously served as a Florida Senator from 1991 to 2002 and founded Security First after the 2004, 2005 Florida hurricane seasons.

The company is headquartered in Ormond Beach, Fla.
