Georgia Man Wanted for Deliberately Damaging Roof During Inspection

December 21, 2021

Solicitation by roofers may be a problem in many states, but in Georgia, authorities are now searching for a man who offered to inspect a home’s roof after a storm then deliberately damaged more than 200 shingles.

The Georgia Insurance Commissioner’s office said Monday that a warrant had been issued for Paul Jeffrey Kelley, 57, of Whitesburg. The man was asked by a homeowner to inspect the roof, in March. Home security cameras showed Kelly damaging 241 shingles, enough to force the homeowner to replace his entire roof, Insurance Commissioner John King said in a news release.

King did not say if Kelley had any known ties to roofing contractors. Anyone with information about Kelley’s whereabouts is asked to call the Insurance Department’s investigations division at 404-463-6363.
