Dog Attack at Florida Rescue Center Kills Woman, Injures Another

February 18, 2022

A volunteer at a dog rescue center in South Florida died and another woman was injured after a dog attacked them Thursday morning.

Local news outlets reported that two women were working with the large, mixed-breed dog at 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades when the dog suddenly became aggressive. Pam Robb, 71, a retired teacher and longtime volunteer at the center, died about 11 a.m. The second woman attempted to help her and was injured, authorities said.

The dog was euthanized, according to TV and newspaper reports.

The center takes in dogs that have been neglected or abused and attempts to rehabilitate them, officials said. The center’s website notes that since September 2011 it has rescued more than 4,000 animals in the Florida City, Homestead and Redlands as well as inner cities and other parts of Southeast Florida, the Sun Sentinel newspaper reported.

Robb was “one of the few that the dog resonated with. She was just starting to build trust with the dog,” Robb’s spouse, Angie Anobile, said.
