Biz Moves: King Insurance Acquires Two More Agencies in Florida

September 12, 2022

King Insurance, a rapidly expanding brokerage based in Gainesville, Florida, has announced the acquisitions of two more Florida agencies.

King officials said that it bought Tallahassee-based Brad Burns Insurance, which handles property/casualty insurance and employee benefits. The agency was founded in 2007 and has 10 employees, including the owner-partners: Brad Burns, Craig Mugglin and John Hohman. The BBI team will continue to operate out of its Tallahassee offices, King said in a news release.

Last week, King said it also has acquired the Browning Insurance Agency, one of the oldest agencies in Florida, with operations in Brooksville and Spring Hill, near Tampa. Browning, known as BIA, is separate from the Browning Agency on Florida’s east coast.

BIA was founded in 1907. In 1972, after the untimely death of Ed Browning, Evelyn Browning and their three sons took over. Mark, Scott and Tom Browning will remain as principal agents and the BIA team will continue to operate out of the Brooksville office.

This acquisitions mark King’s 14th and 15th purchases in the last past year, since its partnership with BHMS Investments, the company said. King was founded in 1974.
