Florida DWC Gives Long-Awaited Nod to Surgical Center Reimbursement Manual

By | April 3, 2023

After almost three years of hearings, workshops and debate between insurers and medical centers, the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation has given final approval to the 2020 reimbursement manual for ambulatory surgical centers.

The manual and its reimbursement rates take effect July 1, but it’s known as the 2020 edition because that’s when the rulemaking process began. The manual, which can be seen here, does not raise overall costs enough to trigger a legislative review.

But it does include maximium reimbursement amounts for many more medical procedures.

For years, surgical centers and insurers have argued over the appropriate payment for procedures that weren’t listed in the manual. The new manual also will set per-diem rates for ASCs and hospital outpatient services, bringing some certainty to the payment and bill review process.
