Hatchell, who started at the Department of Insurance in 1999 as a complaint analyst and most recently was deputy commissioner of the agent services division, will also oversee the regional director division, Commissioner Mike Causey said in a news release.

The consumer services section responds to consumers’ insurance questions and complaints. The agent services division helps ensure that agency employees have the knowledge and ethics to act in a fiduciary capacity for insureds, the department noted. The department has 10 regions and regional directors, and Hatchell will now oversee those.

Hatchell began her insurance career as a personal lines underwriter for North Carolina Farm Bureau in the late 1980s. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from North Carolina State University.
