August 26, 2024

A high school football player in Alabama died after he suffered a brain injury in a Friday night game, according to multiple news reports.

Caden Tellier, whose mom once held an Alabama insurance producer license, played quarterback for Morgan Academy in Selma. He went down in the third quarter of the season opener after making a tackle, and was airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. He died the next day, Al.com and Sports Illustrated news sites reported.

His parents and the school made the announcement on social media Saturday.

Morgan Academy, part of the Alabama Independent School Association, has canceled athletic activities for the next two weeks, SI noted. The private school has 339 students in grades kindergarten through 12th.

Services for Tellier had not yet been scheduled by Monday morning.

Tellier’s mother, Arsella Tellier, held a temporary Alabama insurance producer license in 2006 and 2007, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ license look-up site shows.
