CDI Unveils Online Agent/Broker License Renewal

May 17, 2001

The California Department of Insurance (CDI) announced it is now accepting licensing renewals for agents and brokers online. The new online renewal process will save insurance agents and brokers time and eliminate delays resulting from incomplete renewal applications. Online licensing renewal is now available at the CDI website at www.insurance.ca.gov.

The online application software checks the completeness of the renewal application to ensure that all required information is included before processing the renewal. Agent and broker licenses will be mailed within two business days of submitting the online renewal application. The average wait for the standard mail in renewal application is between 15-20 days. California law requires insurance agents and brokers to renew their licenses every two years. Agents may renew online if they are within 90 days of their license expiration date. When renewing online, agents and brokers will pay their normal renewal fee (approximately $124), along with a service fee ($6.75 per each renewal) by credit card. Credit card transactions are encrypted and no one but the agent and his or her credit card company will have access to the credit card number.

A licensed agent or broker who does not have computer access may still renew by mailing a check and forms to CDI’s Producer Licensing Bureau, P.O. Box 1139, Sacramento, California 95812-1139. For all agent, broker and business entity questions please call CDI’s Producer Licensing Bureau’s toll-free number at 1-800-967-9331. Questions and concerns can be submitted via e-mail to License.Bureau@insurance.ca.gov. Please be sure to include a name, telephone number, license number and return e-mail address in all CDI correspondence.
