Caryn Siebert, Seattle-based SAFECO’s vice president of claims, has been elected to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) Board of Governors.
“SAFECO has always been a major player in the fight against insurance fraud,” Robert Bryant, president and CEO of the NICB, said. “We’re very pleased to have Caryn on the team.”
“The NICB plays a critical role in the insurance industry’s efforts to reduce fraud,” Siebert said. “It’s estimated that fraud costs the average policyholder $200 to $300 annually in higher premiums. We owe it to our customers to do a better job of detecting and investigating fraud in order to hold down insurance costs.”
SAFECO works closely with the NICB through the company’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Under Siebert, the SAFECO SIU currently has more than 80 investigators covering every region of the U.S. All SAFECO SIU investigators attend the NICB’s Special Investigation Academy, and the company’s front-line claims representatives participate in the NICB’s “Fraud Smart” classes.
“Joining the NICB Board of Governors is a significant opportunity for SAFECO to help lead the direction our industry takes in the battle against insurance fraud,” Siebert added.
