Fireman’s Funds Offers Select Customers Free Online Pre-Employment Screening

April 2, 2003

Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will offer online employment screening — as well as a “1-800-How am I Driving?” service — available to a select tier of its middle market business customers without membership or enrollment fees.

Access to the two services from Driver’s Alert began being offered through the insurer’s iCustomer Series(SM) service last week. The only fees charged will be for specific reports ordered.

“Fireman’s Fund has departed from traditional industry practice by making sophisticated non-insurance products that indirectly result in lower loss experience available to our business clients,” said Tom Alteri, product development director for Fireman’s Fund Commercial Insurance. Alteri said: “We believe these two crucial services from Driver’s Alert will constructively benefit the risk management among our prime customers. This is a whole new way of thinking in business insurance.”

Alteri said that employment screening prevents the hiring of employees who are not dependable from any perspective. Driver monitoring services help employers avoid accidents before they occur by holding drivers accountable for on-the-road actions. “The result is loss reduction, which saves us claims dollars,” he said. “As an added bonus, both programs improve public image, safeguard equipment and can even save lives in the long term.”

These non-insurance products are part of a series of vendor services added to the Company’s new iCustomer Series program that streamlines risk management for Middle Market and Commercial Group customers by providing real-time access to a broad array of industry-specific tools and services. Other similar non-insurance products offered include employee training programs and online data storage.
