IICF Celebrates 10 Years of Service to Calif. Non-Profits

May 1, 2003

The Insurance Industry Charitable Fund (IICF) will celebrate a decade of community service resulting in more than $5.5 million in grants to nonprofit groups across California on Friday, May 2, at San Francisco City Hall.

By organizing and pooling insurance industry resources, the IICF has also donated more than 50,000 hours of volunteer time to California charities in just five years, according to IICF CEO Karen Chin.

The IICF’s record of achievement will be highlighted Friday at the organization’s annual fund-raising gala. The event will draw senior members of the nation’s insurance industry together to honor Bruce Basso, chairman of ABD Insurance and Financial Services, a founder and current Ex Officio of the IICF, for his history of charitable support.

Under Basso’s leadership, the IICF has surpassed $1 million in grants to nonprofit organizations for four consecutive years. The grants support four basic areas of philanthropy: Awareness and Prevention of Child Abuse, Targeted Educational Programs, Disaster Preparedness, and Health and Quality of Life.

“This event is a testimony to the insurance industry’s dedication and commitment to the communities it serves,” Chin said. “It is an honor to celebrate the efforts of people like Bruce Basso and the many others who help our organization provide grants and volunteer assistance to charities all over California.”

Since its inception in 1994, the IICF’s annual donations have grown from $100,000 to more than $1 million. Last year, more than 100 nonprofit groups benefited from these donations.

For more information on Friday’s event, call the IICF at (510) 208-0833 and leave a name, phone number and number of places desired for the event. The event begins with a general reception at 6:30 p.m. and is black tie preferred.
