Paiva Named Senior Legislative Advocate for PIFC

June 9, 2004

Dan Dunmoyer, president of the Personal Insurance Federation of California (PIFC) announced that Michael A. Paiva has joined PIFC as Senior Legislative Advocate, effective immediately.

“Mr. Paiva has a wealth of California legislative knowledge serving as an insurance policy analyst and consultant to the Senate Insurance Committee and as legislative consultant to two legislators,” Mr. Dunmoyer said. “His insurance background combined with his experience in the Legislature are elements that will make Michael a strong advocate for the PIFC lobbying and regulatory advocacy efforts.”

As consultant to Senator Jackie Speier, chairperson of the Senate Insurance Committee, Paiva analyzed insurance bills for the Committee and worked with all stakeholders interested in legislation pending before the Committee. In addition, he served as policy expert on legislation in a number of important areas including environment, judiciary, education, labor and industrial relations. Paiva served as Legislative Assistant to Assemblymember Fred Keeley prior to joining Senator Speier.

PIFC Chairman of the Board Ron Coble, vice president and California state executive director, Farmers Insurance Group, noted that Paiva will be a valuable addition to PIFC’s efforts to work closely with the Legislature to assure positive outcomes for PIFC’s member companies that serve more than 49 percent of the personal lines insurance customers in California. “The PIFC Board welcomes Mr. Paiva to the team. His experience and relationships with members and staff of the Legislature will be invaluable as he joins the PIFC staff to work on the myriad personal lines insurance issues before the Legislature, California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and the California Department of Insurance (CDI).”
