American Agents Alliance Welcomes New Members

January 3, 2005

The American Agents Alliance announced the election of Carlen Gibson and Kelly Turton to its Board of Directors. Both Gibson and Turton are longtime members of the association and have been actively involved in agent/broker issues for many years.

Gibson has owned and operated Prospector Insurance Agency in Shingle Springs since 1993. Regarding the progress made by independent producers in the past, she said “as independent agents and brokers, we have come a long way, but still have some distance to go to prove that we provide a necessary service for our communities.” On her election to the Alliance Board of Directors, Gibson said she hopes to “continue to support the existence of, and help insure the future of, independent agents and brokers. I am ready to get involved and do what it takes to make positive changes for our industry.”

Turton has been the owner of Freeway Insurance since he founded it in 1987. As a Board member, he plans to tackle issues facing the industry “head on” and is looking forward to making a greater impact on behalf of independent agents and brokers. “Large or small, we all face the same challenges in doing business,” said Turton. “Those challenges require collective and coordinated solutions. The Alliance provides a well-established platform from which to tackle our business challenges and I am confident that I can contribute to those efforts.”

Alliance President David Nielson, CIC, noted that both Gibson and Turton will be welcome additions to the Board as the association faces some dire threats to the association’s constituency, including the CDI proposed broker fiduciary duty regulations. “I am looking forward to working with Carlen and Kelly this next year, as well as far into the future. The Alliance Board is already hard at work strategizing about the CDI’s proposed broker disclosure regulations and other issues, and their contributions will be welcome,” said Nielson. “Carlen and Kelly have already demonstrated their dedication to the Alliance mission to ‘protect and serve the independent insurance producer and consumer’ and share the rest of the Board’s enthusiasm for the work we have ahead of us. I am sure they will play a big role in our success in 2005.”
