Property Claim Services and I.I.I. Rank Fire Losses

The Property Claim Services of ISO and the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) have ranked the nation’s five most expensive wildland fires in insured losses.

As reported in AP, the most expensive fires from 1970 to 2004 (dollar amounts adjusted for inflation) are:

-$2.36 billion: Oakland and Alameda counties, Calif., October 1991

-$1.09 billion: San Diego County, Calif., October-November 2003

-$1 billion: San Bernardino County, Calif., October-November 2003

-$490 million: Los Angeles County, Calif., November 1993

-$458 million: Orange County, Calif., October 1993.
