Liberty International Underwriters Opens Los Angeles Office

May 16, 2006

Responding to the increasing influx of business from the Southwest and Southern California, in particular, Boston-based Liberty International Underwriters, a division of Liberty Mutual Group, has opened a Los Angeles office. This is LIU’s second office in California and its second new U.S. office opening this quarter.

The office, which serves Southern California, Nevada, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, is led by Vice President of Excess Casualty, Bruce Griffin. He is joined by Assistant Vice President of Excess Casualty, Paula Mannion. For the first six months, under their leadership, the Los Angeles office will provide umbrella excess coverage. Ultimately, it will offer LIU’s full line of third-party capabilities – surplus lines, general liability and specialty casualty.

“With the amount of business we saw coming out of the Southwest, it no longer made sense to service those brokers out of San Francisco,” said David Cohen, chief underwriting officer of LIU’s global casualty operations. “Bruce’s and Paula’s knowledge of the excess casualty business and their proximity to the brokers will reduce the turn around time between submission and quote.”

Additionally, the Los Angeles office will house LIU’s Southwest regional loss control representative for both primary surplus and excess umbrella lines. Steve Chiascione will help underwriters better understand the risks involved with each submission so that LIU’s reviews are conducted using both industry, and individual company, risk exposure.

Brokers can contact Bruce Griffin at 213-330-2999, Paula Mannion at (213) 330-2998 or stop by the office at 601 S. Figueroa Street, Ste. 2750, Los Angeles.
