May 19, 2006

Novato insurance agent, Gerald H. “Jerry” Miller, CIC was presented with IBA West’s Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award for exemplary service during the Blue Ribbon Conference of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West.

“Jerry has served the association for years holding virtually every office,” said Stewart Sawyer, IBA West President. “We thought it was very appropriate to recognize his years of service to the industry.”

Gerald H. “Jerry” Miller, is president and CEO of Miller-Robertson Insurance Services Inc, with offices in Novato and Ventura, Calif. His distinguished insurance career spans more than 40 years. A native of Washington, D.C., he attended the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the College of Insurance Executive Program. He received his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 1990.

He began his career with the Insurance Company of North America in Philadelphia. In 1965 he joined Continental Insurance where he held various management positions culminating with a promotion to assistant vice president at the Home Office.

In 1976, he joined Industrial Indemnity Company as assistant vice president at the company’s San Francisco home office. In 1979 he was promoted to vice president of business development. In 1981 Industrial Indemnity named him president and chief operating officer of a newly formed subsidiary, All West Insurance Co., and chairman and chief executive officer of One Stop Insurance Shops.

In 1983, Jerry began his new career as an independent insurance agent, purchasing H.F. Robertson Insurance Agency in Ventura. In 1985, Jerry expanded his operations, founding Miller-Robertson Insurance Services in Novato, which since has grown to become one of the North Bay’s premier independent insurance agencies serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Miller has held numerous leadership positions since becoming an independent agent. In 1991, he was appointed to the board of directors of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of California where he served with distinction.

Acknowledged for his considerable abilities, the membership elected him to secretary-treasurer and vice president. Following the consolidation, he was named president-elect of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West, and in 1997 he became its president.

After his service as president, he was elected as State National Director of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, where his knowledge and leadership were quickly recognized. He was appointed and served terms as a member and as chairman of the Personal Lines Committee, Communications Committee and the Branding Task Force. In the latter role he earned a national reputation as an indefatigable champion of Trusted Choice serving on its board of trustees and as its highly effective California co-chairman.

His record of service in his community is consistent with the high standard set by other distinguished recipients of the Ramsden/Sullivan Award. He has held leadership positions in his church and homeowners associations. He was an active member in the Rotary Club of Ignacio.

The Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award was established as a fitting means of honoring past recipients while recognizing worthy individuals in the future. The award is the most prestigious IBA West can bestow on an individual. It is presented only when a person merits such a high honor, but it is never awarded to more than one person at any one time nor more often than annually.

A Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award recipient exemplifies the highest caliber of service to the American Agency System, the insurance industry and the community.

Completely surprised to receive the award, Miller was even more surprised by his wife Cheri, who arranged for their children and grandchildren to attend the presentation and also hosted a luncheon in his honor.
