Colorado Casualty Provides Disaster Planning Web Tool for Businesses

July 20, 2006

Businesses insured through Colorado Casualty, a member of Liberty Mutual Group, will be among the first in the Mountain West and Southwest states to be able to use Open for Business, a free, web-based tool that allows them to plan for, and recover from natural disasters.

As a new feature of its loss prevention services, Colorado Casualty is providing its 213 appointed agencies and more than 23,000 business policyholders online access to the free, web-based tool, which was developed by the Institute for Business and Home Safety.

According to IBHS, at least one-fourth of all businesses that close because of a disaster never reopen. The National Interagency Fire Center reports that wildfire potential from June through September of this year could be higher than normal in the Southwest and portions of the Rocky Mountains, due in part to a dry winter and spring.

“We want to help our agents and commercial insurance customers be prepared to the greatest extent they can be,” said Colorado Casualty President and CEO Don Frette. Thol is designed to give customesr a “roadmap” of what to do before, during and after a disaster.

Businesses and agents can log into the program through www.coloradocasualty-ins.com. Once there, business owners answer questions about human resources, physical resources and business operationsto build individualized property protection and recovery plans, which are.
tailored to the potential catastrophic risks that exist for a particular zip code.

The plans also outline how vital records, equipment, vehicles, computers, and voice/data communications can be integrated from a chosen recovery location to help a business stay open following a natural disaster.

Colorado Casualty offers property and casualty products distributed only through appointed independent agents. Headquartered in Denver, Colorado Casualty provides insurance in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
