Hawaii State Insurance Commissioner J. P. Schmidt has revoked the insurance producer license of Amy Pohaiokalani Fernandez (aka Amy Pohaiokalani Waikiki and Pohai Waikiki) and fined her $20,000. Commissioner Schmidt charged Fernandez with stealing $11,737 in premium money that was paid by two policyholders for their insurance policies in 2006. At that time, Fernandez was working for Majestic Insurance Agency on Maui, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Insurance Division noted.
The state learned of the crime after Majestic notified the Insurance Division of complaints that policyholders had with policies that were sold to them by Fernandez. Majestic worked with the policyholders and placed one with an insurer and returned the amount of the premium to the other, according to the policyholders’ wishes. Majestic is continuing to assist the Insurance Division as it investigates other policies that Fernandez sold.
