California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced that Woody Girion will serve as the new deputy commissioner of rate regulation at the Department of Insurance effective August 1. Girion replaces former Rate Regulation Deputy David Diehl, who returned to the Maryland Department of Insurance.
Girion currently serves as deputy commissioner of consumer services and market conduct. In this position, he provides policy direction on a wide range of consumer issues that impact the industry’s operations and profitability, financial stability, rating practices and overall conduct. Girion has more than 30 years of experience with the Department of Insurance. Among his many accomplishments are establishing the first Consumer Services Bureau, which eventually grew into today’s Consumer Services & Market Conduct Branch.
Girion has also served as chief of the Department’s Financial Analysis Division. A replacement for the position Girion is vacating will be named on August 1.
