CSE Insurance Honors Three with Lifetime Achievement Awards

February 25, 2009

CSE Insurance Group, a provider of insurance for civil service employees, has honored three of its longest-tenured agents with lifetime achievement awards.

Loyd Adams of Vanderlip and Adams Insurance Services in Folsom, Calif., Harry Crusberg Sr. of Crusberg Decker Insurance in Pasadena, Calif., and Jim Fern of Fern Insurance in Novato, Calif., have all been recognized for their dedication to serving the public on CSE Insurance’s behalf for more than 30 years, as well as their histories of positive growth and profitability.

Adams began his career in 1960 with the Farm Bureau, and sold insurance to farmers as they worked on tractors together. In 1975, he joined CSE Insurance as regional manager, before becoming an agent in 1981. He is still a critical part of Vanderlip and Adams Insurance Services.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Crusberg Sr. joined the fire department in 1956. Two years later, he took on a second career and joined his father again, running a small insurance agency specializing in serving the needs of firefighters. He brought his son, Harry Jr., also a firefighter, into the business in 1981. The pair continued to grow the agency and merged with Scott Decker in 1994 to form Crusberg-Decker Insurance Services, which has since become one of CSE Insurance’s largest agencies. Harry Sr. also served on the board of the CSE Agents Association and the CSE Agents’ Advisory Council for six years.

Crusberg spent 28 years with the Fire Department before retiring in 1986. He retired from the agency in 2003 after 46 years of service. These days, he dedicates most of his time to charity, continuing his legacy of helping others.

Fern was born and raised in San Francisco, and graduated from St. Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco. As a young man, he was an original shareholder of CSE Insurance, urged to buy stock by his father, a postal employee. In 1966, Fern decided to supplement his income by becoming a part-time CSE Insurance agent, running the business from his home. In 1983 he purchased a CSE Insurance agency from another agent, renamed the company Fern Insurance Agency, and brought his daughter Carol into the business. His son, Jim followed a year later. Fern served as president of the CSE Agents Association for a year, and retired from the agency business in 2001. Under the direction of his children, Fern Insurance Agency is still going strong today.

CSE Insurance Group provides property and casualty insurance for teachers and other educators, firefighters, law enforcement personnel, and other government and civil service employees. CSE Insurance products are sold through independent insurance agents in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.
