SCF Arizona President An Arizona “Most Admired” CEO

June 18, 2009

Phoenix-based SCF Arizona President & CEO Smith has been named one of Arizona’s “Most Admired CEOs” by a local business paper. SCF Arizona is the state’s largest workers’ compensation insurer.

The weekly publication selected 25 individuals to honor at its inaugural event on June 9. The people honored “could be considered the epitome of achievement,” the newspaper stated, noting the honorees “made their companies better; they’ve helped to build Valley business; and they’ve contributed their time and expertise in the community on numerous levels.”

To be selected the CEOs had to demonstrate a record of leadership, values, vision, solid decision-making and a commitment to quality. They also needed to show strong support for community involvement, philanthropic contributions and a promise to diversity, innovation and sustainability.

Smith credits his success at SCF Arizona with its 575 employees’ dedication and loyalty. He added that these qualities are the reason SCF Arizona was named one of the state’s “Economic Engines” in 2008 by the AZ Business magazine, Corporate Citizen of the Year by Equality Arizona and Corporate Volunteer of the Year by The Business Journal.

“SCF Arizona is an insurance company whose purpose is to promise to pay healthcare and lost wages to those who are injured at work,” Smith said. He added that helping companies to eliminate workplace injuries is stressed at SCF Arizona, and the organization works hard to help employers recognize and correct possible workplace hazards.

Smith’s community involvement includes the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross – which named him Humanitarian of the Year in 2008 – the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and the Valley of the Sun United Way.
