Hiscox USA has expanded its business in its Los Angeles, California office with the addition of underwriters in the allied healthcare professional and general liability; architects, engineers and construction managers professional liability; kidnap and ransom and miscellaneous professional liability product lines.
The Los Angeles branch caters to brokers in Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico, South California and Southern Nevada. It has been open and operating since October 2009 and is led by branch manager, Brian Thornton, who is responsible for overseeing the development and management of broker relationships and business operations for the region in addition to his existing role as US Technology Manager at Hiscox USA.
The following underwriters, formerly based at Hiscox’s New York City and Armonk, NY branches, have joined the Los Angeles-based team:
- Dan Akerman, assistant vice president, is head underwriter for the kidnap and ransom group on the West Coast and is also the lead US underwriter for marine piracy.
- Michelle Kim, vice president, is the head underwriter for the allied healthcare professional and general Liability insurance product line, which includes coverage for medical spas, holistic and ayurvedic treatment centers.
- Allison Terranova, underwriter for miscellaneous professional liability, will provide local underwriting support while Judy Biancardi, managing director for the product and based on the East Coast, will continue to support brokers nationwide.
- Chris Ventrone, assistant vice president, architects, engineers and construction managers professional liability, which covers various professions from architects, engineers and construction managers to design-build firms and general contractors, will continue to serve as the primary contact for this line of business in the western region.
A full range of Hiscox USA’s commercial, professional liability and specialty lines of coverage are written out of the Los Angeles branch. Additional products include: commercial property insurance; construction property insurance; inland marine insurance; media liability insurance; not-for-profit management liability insurance; private company management liability insurance; public officials/public entity professional liability insurance; privacy; technology errors and omissions insurance and terrorism insurance.
