Advanced Insurance Underwriters, CODA to Offer GL, WC Coverage to Contractors

August 22, 2013

Advanced Insurance Underwriters, a nationwide provider of commercial insurance, and CODA, the California Operator & Door Association, have collaborated to give contractors access to general liability coverage and workers comp, insuring the protection of their employees and their business.

The partnership awards CODA members a preferred premium on general liability coverage with a low down payment, and a pay-as-you-go workers compensation program that fluctuates based on each employee’s actual payroll in any given month.

“Our preferred rates allow contractors in California, many of whom have worked without insurance because of the high cost, to provide their employees protection in the event of an injury,” said Rick Gross, an agent with Advanced Insurance Underwriters.

Since the downturn in the economy, many contractors let their insurance policies lapse in an effort to save money. The lack of workers comp insurance leaves contractors and their employees vulnerable if left unable to work. Even clients suffer because they’re often held liable if an accident occurs on their property, said Bill Haigh, president of CODA and owner of Caliber Garage Doors in Montclair, Calif.

“Our partnership will raise awareness about the importance of having proper insurance and the dangers that lack of coverage creates for contractors, employees and customers,” Haigh said.

Advanced Insurance Underwriters and CODA will launch their specially designed insurance program at the 2013 CODA Western Regional Trade Show in Laughlin, Nev., Sept. 20 and 21. The event serves garage door contractors from California, as well as from Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Advanced Insurance Underwriters and CODA will expand their insurance plans to contractors in those states as well.
