IICF, Sesame Workshop Featured on Katie Couric Show

October 29, 2013

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, will be featured on the Katie Couric Show as part of a Halloween special on Thursday.

IICF and Sesame Workshop have paired to promote the goal of encouraging early childhood reading. The team will be promoting Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day at events nationwide and will be reaching out to families and volunteers through local and national programming.

Earlier this month IICF and Sesame Workshop appeared at a family center in Southern California with the Cookie Monster to announce the launch of Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day, an initiative from IICF and Sesame Street in response to the wide gap in literacy rates that prevails between children of high and low-income families, according to the groups.

As part of the initiative the groups unveiled a new bilingual, digital resource that includes tips, games, and activities to engage children and improve their reading and writing capabilities. The free resource is available at SesameStreet.org/literacy.

As part of the Katie Couric Show on Thursday Sesame Street’s The Count will talk about his love for counting and reading as part of the new literacy program.

The show airs Thursday at 3 p.m. on ABC.

IICF is a nonprofit funded by the insurance industry and focused on community development across the country.
