M4.1 Earthquake Shook Parts of Los Angeles Area: USGS

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook parts of the Los Angeles Area, including the cities of Corona, Anaheim, and Santa Ana on at 1:49 p.m. local time on the afternoon of Wednesday, the USGS confirmed.

The epicenter was in the Santa Ana mountains southwest of Corona. The earthquake was widely felt, although it caused little damage, according to Temblor Inc., a catastrophe modeling company specializing in seismic hazard and risk assessment.

The quake triggered the ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System. The automated ShakeAlert system estimated it as high as magnitude 4.5, the threshold for an earthquake to send alerts to cellphones, according to Temblor.
