XL Makes New Appointments to Construction Practice

Insurer XL has made eight new appointments to its North American Construction team.

Gregory P. McKiernan will serve as senior vice president of Construction Primary Casualty, based in New York. He most recently served as underwriting manager of XL’s US Risk Management team. He joined XL in 2004 and has more than 25 years of primary casualty underwriting experience.

Edward Totten will serve as vice president of Construction Excess Casualty in XL’s Exton, Pennsylvania and New York offices. He most recently served as vice president in the construction unit of Zurich Insurance Co. and previously as construction team leader at AIG.

Joseph M. Vierling will serve as vice president of Construction Property in New York. Vierling joins XL from Ironshore where he served as vice president. He has held previous underwriting and management positions with Arch, SwissRe, Kemper and Industrial Risk Insurers.

Blane Farrell will serve as executive underwriter for Primary Casualty in Chicago. Farrell joins XL from Zurich North America where he was casualty director for its Construction unit. Farrell has more than 20 years of casualty underwriting experience working on large construction accounts at Zurich, CNA, Kemper and Liberty Mutual.

Markus Bachmann will serve as senior underwriter for Construction Property in New York. Bachmann joined XL Energy group in June 2010 and now transfers to its Construction team to coordinate contractors’ builder’s risk insurance coverage. He has more than 20 years of builder’s risk and global underwriting experience and has previously held positions with Allianz, Gerling Insurance Group, ABB Insurance and others.

Scott Merchant will serve as construction risk engineer manager in Chicago. He joins XL with more than 30 years management experience in residential and commercial construction, inspection services and environmental issues. He will oversee XL’s risk engineering services to builders, owners and project managers.

Patrick Waldron will serve as construction claims manager in Chicago. Waldron joins XL from Zurich where he was a claims customer account executive. Waldron has more than 20 years of industry experience and has held positions at Kemper, Fireman’s Fund and Liberty Mutual .

Keith Cummings will serve as construction actuary in New York. Cummings joins XL from Zurich where he served as a regional actuary. He has more than 25 years of actuarial experience, having previously worked for Milliman USA, Gerling Global Reinsurance and Reliance National.
