Hi,

I'm thinking on getting appointed with Zurich. Anyone work with them? What can you say? Are they competitive? If so, where did you find them to be the most competetive?

Thanks a lot!

I have represented Zurich since July 2000. They have an excellent Builders Risk, but no real direction anywhere else. Here in NYS, they can write offices well, but not much else.

I am waiting for their World Class Classes to expand.

I am appointed, if you even can get appointed to offer their BOP program good luck. :?
Outside of California I understand they have some great programs. 8) In CA however they are in the middle, I don't use them much. I have other carriers that have better rates and coverages.

Like most insurers they can do a good job.

When I have a good underwriter they do well. When I have a mediocre underwriter I can get up to bat.

As someone else said, they love builders risk for their BOP appointment.

See what areas in your state they do not want to write business, there are three counties in Michigan they do not want business. Their rates are so high there you will never place a piece of business there with them.

Remember they are a $49 billion premium company. Even if you had 1 billion with them you would be peanuts.

They excel in IT for uploading and policy issuance. Downloading depends on your system.

Getting an agency report from them is like pulling teeth.

Storms in Florida affect their operations shutting them down twice last year.

Alternative Appointment

Post by shemeshka »

Hi Guys,

Thank you SO MUCH for all your replies. I see now that in CA they won't be a "great" market for my clients. It's so hard nowadays to get an appointment with a good carrier. Can you maybe recommend me if any other company appoints new agens nowadays? I'm interested in BOP, WC, and Commercial Auto in California. I'm also interested in personal lines such as auto or home, but with no or very low premium commitment. I tried couple of them but they are just either not interested in new agents or their premium commitment is so high that I just can't do it.

Thank you for your replies in advance,

Hi,
I'm in Northern California, San Francisco.
I tried Safeco and Hartford for GL; Republic Idemnity, AIG and ACE for WC; Progressive for Commercial Auto.
