I have not worked with Liberty but I do work with two of their subsidiaries, Wasau and Golden Eagle. They are among the top carriers that I work with.

A top carrier from an agent's point of view? Maybe in CA but I have not heard this much from agents here in the midwest.

Here's why: Liberty quotes an account through one of their captive agents. Then they get involved through one of their subsidiary companies with an independent agent. I've heard this often from Liberty agents that they compete against the parent company.

Then factor in all of their subsidiary companies - Wausau, Hawkeye, Indiana - and you could have several Liberty companies pursuing the same risk through various means.

Stable carrier, good reputation, confusing to agents.

Could be different in the Midwest but Wausau, Golden Eagle and Liberty do not quote against eachother on controlled business in CA. They will all quote on new business but will not quote on anything controlled by a affiliated company. I have no problem with quoting Wausau or Golden Eagle vs. a Liberty agent on a new piece of business because I feel like most business owners understand the advantages of working with an independent agent.

Are you trying to find out which is the worst company to work with? If so, I would say Farmers and Allstate are the worst and then State Farm and Liberty Mutual. If you are trying to find the best companies to work with I would aim your sites a little higher. A good company won't have a captive contract.

What exactly are you wanting to know about Liberty? Carriers can be rated in many different ways....price, forms, claims service, policy issuance.....I appreciate that you are trying to expand your knowledge base, but if would be helpful for you to be a bit more specific.
