Injured Cyclist’s Family Sues Car Driver for $10M

March 24, 2011

The family of a comatose cyclist is suing for $10 million the driver of the car that struck him in Maryland.

Lawyers in the lawsuit filed Monday allege that 83-year-old Jeanette Marie Walke violated traffic laws on Feb. 26 when she turned into the path of Nathan Krasnopoler, a 20-year-old undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University.

Police previously said the student was riding in a bike lane when he was struck by the woman, who was trying to make a right turn. Authorities said he was trapped under the vehicle and suffered burns to his face and chest. His lawyers say he remains unconscious at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

An investigation by police is continuing and Walke has not been charged in the crash.
