New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says a Hudson Valley-based gasoline wholesaler has agreed to pay $50,000 in penalties for price gouging in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy last fall.
Schneiderman announced Wednesday that CPD Energy Corp. of New Paltz charged “unconscionably excessive prices” at six stations that it owns in Westchester, Putnam and Ulster counties. He says the settlement is the largest penalty paid by a single operator for price gouging on gasoline after the storm.
CPD operates gas stations in New Paltz, White Plains, Yorktown Heights, Yonkers and Patterson. Schneiderman says the New Paltz station raised its price for a gallon of gas by 47 cents after the October storm.
The state has reached price-gouging settlements with 42 gas stations, with total penalties of nearly $288,000.
