Thomas D. Rutherfoord, Jr., chairman of insurance brokerage Rutherfoord, a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC company, announced his retirement after more than 40 years of leadership and service at the Richmond, Virginia-based firm.
Rutherfoord joined the family business as the third generation to work in the insurance industry in 1971. He led his firm’s Alexandria, Virginia, office until 1986 at which time he was named president of the firm. He was instrumental in the growth of Rutherfoord’s brand throughout Virginia and other states in the region, the brokerage said in the announcement. Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC acquired the Rutherfoord firm in 2010.
“In my 44 years with Rutherfoord, my greatest reward has come from contributing to the growth of our firm, our clients, and the wonderful associates who make our culture so unique,” said Rutherfoord. “We have grown accustomed to providing our clients with quality advice, a wide-array of exemplary services, and well-designed products offered through our insurance carrier partners. I look forward to the next chapter of my life, reflecting on a career fulfilled.”

Founded in 1916, Rutherfoord has offices from Philadelphia to the Gulf Coast region and client operations in all 50 states. Rutherfoord has a broad portfolio of clients in commercial insurance, risk management, surety bonding, employee benefits, international and personal insurance.
